"Day 1"
One of Amtrak's new ALC-42 locomotives, #301, makes its debut run as a leader as it guides the outbound Empire Builder into Glenview, IL. Behind it is sister ALC-42 #300. The pair has been testing on the Empire Builder as of recent, but to date it has been 300 leading the train, with 301 relegated to trailing status due to PTC gremlins.
This locomotive wears a simple black with blue stripe "pointless arrow" paint scheme that was applied to an E8 locomotive on Amtrak's first day of operations in 1971. Seems only fitting to catch "Day 1" on its maiden voyage leading a train.
