Objective 3: Composition Techniques – Use the guide on the website
2. Perspective: perspective is the angle you take the picture at that changes the way the subject looks compared to in normal life. In this picture the perspective makes it look like the flowers are taller than the viewer.
3. Fill the Frame: Fill the frame is when the subject of the picture takes up most of the frame. For this case the flowers are the subject. The flowers in this particular picture take up a lot of the frame.
4. Backgrounds: A simple background is a background in which there is little or no distraction taking away from the subject. In this case the background is simple because there is nothing on it and it isn’t bright or dark it is a neutral color that lets the viewer focus on the flowers.
5. Leading Lines: leading lines are natural lines in a picture that lead the viewer’s eyes to a subject or focal point in the picture. In this case the leading lines are the flower stems that draw the eye toward the flower making it easier to look at the picture.
6. Pattern: pattern is repetition in a photo that adds to the image. In this case the pattern would be the repetition of the flower petals in the picture.
7. Texture: there is both rough and smooth texture in this photo. Rough texture is exemplified by the green part under the flower petals because you can tell that it has bumps on it. Smooth texture is demonstrated by the stem of the flower being smooth and not having anything to distract the eye.
9. Colour: The colours in this photo interact with each other really nicely because the flower petals are warm and the stem is cool and the background is neutral. They interact by balancing each other out and contrasting each other too.
Objective 4: Lighting (side, back, soft, hard, fill)
Types of lighting and how they contribute to the image: In this picture I just used the kitchen light on an angle to the flowers to create the impression of a sun. which makes the light soft side light.
Objective 5: Post Production (resize, contrast, sharpening, and others you have done)
Corrections/adjustments made: In the picture for editing I adjusted the vibrancy of the colours by turning it up. I also brought the brightness up a little to highlight the pinks of the petals.
Objective 6: Critique
Analyse your photograph for strengths and areas for improvement (consider composition, lighting, exposure, overall feel, etc.)
Strength: The angle of the photo and the placement of the flowers I felt was very strong in this picture.
Area for growth: To improve this picture I would have done it in a studio with better lighting and a white background because the beige backgrounds I don’t find attractive with the photo.
