Iowa Traction 54 Clear Lake Jct. Mason City Iowa

On a bright morning, colorful little Iowa Traction freight motor #54 is moving a loaded car of scrap to the Canadian Pacific interchange at Clear Lake Jct. in Mason City, Iowa on October 13, 2011.

Built for the Iowa Southern Utilities Co., (which became the Iowa Southern Ry. in 1941) as ISUC 400 in May 1923, the 54 was sold to the Iowa Terminal in 1968.

The line, built as the Mason City & Clear Lake in 1896, became Iowa Terminal in 1961 and later the Iowa Traction in 1987. A relic from the early 20th century, this interesting little railroad continues to power it's trains with a small fleet of electric motors which are now approaching 100 years old.
