MEC S-4 # 314 Waterville Deadline 12-21-82
By the early 80's all the the Maine Central's ALCO S series units were retired and many of them sold and some scrapped. Here in the deadline at Waterville we see 2 S4's and 2 S1's. The 3rd S1 #958 would be used on the Rockland Branch when operated by the Maine Coast Railroad the first operator of the Rockland Branch after the line was sold by Guilford to the Maine DOT, it is still in service today on a tourist railroad in New Hampshire.
