1974 European exclusives
I just love the Mattel European Exclusive fashions from 1974! They were always at the top of my wishlist ever since I started collecting, as they use the same shapes as some of the earlier popular 1970 fashions, but in different and interesting colours and fabrics…. I recently got the fabulous ‘Fashion Originals’ set #8198 ‘Coordinato Giovane’ (at least that’s what it was named in Italy!) which uses the striped knit fabric from TNT Francie’s swimsuit and the dress and jacket shapes from Barbie’s ‘Rare Pair’ outfit from 1970. Because some of these sets come with items to make up two complete outfits, twinning is winning!!! Here’s two of my Walk Lively Steffies modelling this set… I really like that they are both slightly different to each other; - The gal on the left with the pigtails has a much smaller head and longer, silkier hair with less of a flip. It is also just a shade lighter than the gal on the right, who has shorter, coarser hair with a more pronounced flip. I also added a belt from the Francie outfit ‘Zig Zag Zoom’ to the pants outfit and luckily had orange/red bow flats and blue Pilgrims that perfectly matched those two outfits! They join my other ‘twin’ TNT Christies in that other European Fashion Originals set:- #8197 ‘Prime Pioggie’ which bases the top, skirt and coat shapes on Barbie’s 1970 outfit ‘Anti-Freezers’ and uses that acid-hued hound’s-tooth knit fabric from 1971’s ‘Poncho Put-On.’ I've also included the 1974 Italian ad for those two fashions and others!
