GMTX 9000 at Worcester, MA
Former Oakway SD60 now owned by GATX, #9000 pauses in Worcester before being tacked on the point of Train WONR to head top Plainfield, CT.
The 9000 was part of a joint lease between the Providence and Worcester and the Vermont Railway, hence the custom graphics on the side of the long hood. The P&W typically used the unit for six months in the summer for the stone service to New York City, and the VTR used it the other 6 months of the year. The 9000 along with two other ex Oakway SD60's served well on the stone trains, out performing the railroad's tired fleet of hand me down GE's, particularly when it came to making the arduous climb over the Hell Gate Bridge. Since the sale of the P&W to the Genesee and Wyoming, they have all been returned to GATX in favor of, you guessed it, more hand me down GE's.... go figure....
