On the bridge at Chester Creek
Here's a relatively rare, river-level view of Valley Railroad Mikado #40 as she rumbles across the steel trestle at Chester Creek (MP 8.9), adjacent to the Hays Haven Marina, taking one of the lines regular Steam Train/River Boat excursions north to North Chester, CT. The image is rare because my camera position is very difficult to get to, and almost always under water. This location, just west of the Connecticut River, is close enough to Long Island Sound that the river stage here rises and falls with the tide. The rocks that I am standing on are often submerged at train time, and are very slippery even when exposed. It also takes a fair amount of bush-whacking to get here. Waterproof boots are a must.
This image was captured back in October of 2009. Since that time, trees and other vegetation have pretty much taken this view away. About the only ways to photograph it now are with a boat or a drone.
