Steamscape: Downtown Knoxville

The skyline of downtown Knoxville looms in the background as Engineer Chris Starnes takes Southern 154 and her photo freight across a little cove in the Tennessee River in preparation for an afternoon of photography on the Historic Transport Preservation Charter. Although it is hauling freight cars today for the cameras, this train would normally be hauling tourists, operating as the "Three Rivers Rambler", which is headquartered right in downtown Knoxville. The Three Rivers Rambler is operated by the Knoxville & Holston River Railroad, a local freight carrier, which serves local industries in the Knoxville area on approximately 22 miles of ROW. The Knoxville & Holston River Railroad is a subsidiary of Gulf & Ohio Railways, and owns 3 steam locomotives, including Washington & Lincolnton 203 (a 2-8-0), San Antonio & Aransas Pass #60 (a 4-4-0) and of course Southern Railway 154.
