Welcome 2012! Happy New Year everyone!

 

This morning the Reno Air Racing Association announced its intention to continue the National Championship Air Races in September 2012. After nearly 4 months since the devastating accident that stopped so many things in an instant at the 2011 event, the Association has determined that there is sufficient support from all sectors to warrant proceeding with plans to hold the event in 2012. It will be a long road to be sure, but if any team can do it it's the people who bring us the world's fastest motorsport each year in Reno.

 

One a rather different note, I am booked to go to Carnevale in Venezia in February! I had to sit out Carnevale last year to get some training I needed for work and it has made me all the more anxious to get to Venice this year for all the fun and festivities.

 

Those of you who enjoy my shots of that event will not be disappointed with what I produce this year. I have elevated the caliber of my equipment very substantially to a Nikon D3S and I expect that many of you have already noticed the difference it makes in my work. It's time for the Carnevale fans to get theirs.

I can hardly believe what I've been witnessing for the past 55 days - and I have everyone here to thank for it. This morning I added the 50,000th view that rounded out a cool quarter million views of my work. 55 days ago there were 20% fewer than that! I guess I've struck a nerve!

 

Thanks to all who visit and comment on my work - and thanks in advance to all those who will take the time from this point on. I really appreciate it!

A few minutes ago I had a look at my view count, which I knew was going to pass 200,000 views sometime today and got to watch as it happened.

You may have noticed that I haven't posted very regularly lately. The reason for that is that my job as a pilot has had me jumping through a lot of hoop lately.

 

My company just completed certification as the 95th airline in the United States and only the 18th that has clearance to operate between the mainland and Hawaii. It's been a long and arduous process but we got it done.

 

Now, for the past three weeks, I've been in training for the license required to fly a Boeing 737 - the plane we operate to Hawaii and back. Today I completed my simulator checkride and have earned that license. Now I can go learn about flying for my company in my new capacity.

It's getting to be time for Carnevale in Venice again. The dates are 2/26/2011 through 3/8/2011. Sadly, it is very uncertain whether I will be permitted to attend this year. My boss is afraid to approve the time off I will need to attend because of a project that I am involved in that may come to a conclusion during this time frame.

 

If you will be attending Carnevale in Venice this year please do be in touch - I may help my case if I can say I have business there!

 

In the meantime I've begun to post some more images I've had saved up to get everyone in the mood for this year's celebration.

As of 1959 PST this evening my photostream has officially passed 150,000 views!

As of right now, my image collection has 147,997 views. A scant three months ago it passed through 100,000 views! Wow! A 50% increase in 3 months (it took almost 2 years to reach 100,000)!

 

Thanks to all who are making this possible by viewing what I have to say with my camera. I'll keep working to bring you the best I have to show for my efforts!

Just learned this morning that a shot from the 2010 Reno Air Races will be featured in a calendar approved by the Reno Air Racing Association!

100,000 views went shooting by a few moments ago! Glad I was there to see it happen -

Thanks to everyone who stops by to see! I realize that there are plenty of FAR more interesting things to see here - after all sex does sell - but 100,000 views of the stuff I take isn't too bad and I'm happy with it!

Sometime during the past 24 hours my photostream surpassed 90,000 views and it looks to me like it will pass 100,000 views this summer!

 

I just wanted to thank everyone for stopping by from time to time to have a look at my work. I try to make sure that I put my best foot forward with the postings I make and I'm glad that so many of verify the success of my efforts with your views and comments.

 

A humble thank you once again! I'll be scanning for #100,000 in the coming weeks!

TZW back in the land of the 12 Oz. soda can! It was quite an ordeal getting back too. The flight from Venice to Paris was easy in every way except that it was at 7 AM. The flight from Paris to San Francisco ... not so much. It began well, but when the #3 engine of the Air France A-340 wouldn't start, and when changing its fuel computer didn't fix the problem, and when that necessitated changing the aircraft, and when doing all that meant that the crew no longer had enough duty time to complete the flight and a new crew had to be called out (3 pilots and perhaps 12 flight attendants), the six hour delay made what was supposed to be a 15 hour travel time turned into nearly 24 by the time the whole thing was over.

 

But I'm back now and sorting the pics. I got some good stuff and it'll be coming up soon!

January 14th, 2010:

My plans to photograph Carenvale in Venice in February 2010 have firmed up and I'll be heading over on 2/10/10. Not really sure what to expect except to say that I'm pretty sure there will be at least one or two good shots coming out of the trip. If you will be there let me know - perhaps a Flickr meetup can be arranged.

I have the tremendous good fortune to have extraordinary access to things that not many folks have - whether they be interesting places in the world, or airport ramps. It is my hope that I can help inspire and invigorate young imaginations and propel dreams forward with the images I capture.

 

A little bit about myself - I'm a freelance photographer with 36 years of background in photography. I'm also a professional pilot with 31 years of aviation experience. I'm presently a Captain aboard a Gulfstream IV business jet.
