His helpfulness and willingness to share his insight in photography are something that I'm very impressed with and thankful for as well. In my belief Tommy is the real sensei of photography. He has the essence of it's art. No photoshop layering, liquefying, or other things of the "our days" photography. I've hesitated to write a testimonial for Tommy Oshima, just because it is difficult to put into words how much I appreciate his work. There is a melancholic string that connects much of what he does and that's something I can very much relate to. I love his ability to create images that engage the viewer almost immediately and at the same time make a lasting impression. I find his images often going through my mind long after viewing them on my computer. I really feel that Oshima's work stands strongly with the other great photographer's of our time. This is all the more impressive when you consider all of the excellent photographer's that are out there. Oshima's work manages to complement that of others while also standing apart. I can usually tell that a picture is by him before actually seeing mention of his name. I hope he'll get a chance to exhibit his work in the United States, preferably on the east coast, so I can get a chance to see his prints in person. I greatly appreciate that his work is on flickr. It's a privilege to be able to view it anytime I want.

A very cosmopolite world indeed, where japanese, english, french, german, panasiatic, italian and other cultures are mixed. A very talented photo universe, where the better from argentic is used for great results, where deep contrasts, amazing bokehs, interesting textures and clever compositions are never uncommon. Well, i knew this already, thanks to his wonderful photostream. When i met him, i discovered also a very friendly guy. Bon vivant, Oshima-san... Attentive to other people's thoughts, gestures and talks, Tommy Oshima is humble and open-minded. A great little big man, the kind of person who can help me to forget the bad side of flickr (bad taste ruling, censorship, kittenmania). Oshima-sama no shasshin ha subarashii...
