I'm a self-taught, classically trained New Jersey based film photographer. Although I love and work with cameras of all formats from 8x10 through 35mm, 4X5 is my favorite. Of course, I have digital cameras and an excellent cellphone, they simply do not excite me the way that film does.

Although I've loved cameras and darkrooms since I was a wee lad, there were several events that showed me the potential of photography as an art form. The first was seeing a copy of Urban Landscapes by George Tice in a bookstore. Here were amazing photographs of the New Jersey that I was seeing everyday with my own eyes. The second event was an exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum of Lewis Hine’s work. Lastly, I came to really appreciate Weegee’s pictures of the New York where I imagined my mother lived. Even though I despise cigars, I see a certain romance about schlepping around a Speed Graphic with pockets full of #22 flashbulbs and film holders taking pictures of murders and fires. My actual life was much different and probably much easier.
