I've photographed almost all modes of transport with the exception of bikes and motorcycles since the mid 1980's. Prior to photography l was more of a number cruncher and regret not photographing more of my local routes around where l was raised which at the time included the DMS, RM, RT and on the single deck side, the SMS AEC Swifts. We were also fortunate where l was brought up to not only have red London buses but also those operated by Eastern National passing the top of the road where l was raised on services both into Central London or to the Essex coast with their Bristol FLFs on the 151, 251 and X10 and later on Bristol VRs. Locally l was able to partake in the final run of the RT type, paying £7.50 to ride a bus in the final cavalcade on the 62 with the bus that l was on stalling on Hog Hill in Hainault. Unfortunately l was sitting upstairs at the front and wasn't able to join in by pushing it from behind. I was also outside Brixton Garage to witness the last Routemaster in normal London service pass by (RM54) though should have been RM2217. I'd already photographed RM2217 at Marble Arch, turning at Oxford Circus and arriving at Brixton Garage shortly before RM54 drove past.
My main interest todate involves buses mainly in London, though l have been known to travel to almost all parts of the UK in search of former London buses which have moved to pastures new, including a couple of visits to the Barnsley scrapyards. I also photograph other transport modes and wildlife.
During the Olympics and Paralympics in 2012 we had buses and coaches appearing from all parts of the UK including Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland locally from a whole host of operators to add to the variety, from bus and coach companies large and small.
I've also an interest in Aircraft. We moved house recently and live under what is known as the Lambourne Circuit with planes heading for London Heathrow from Europe and beyond, basically anything that comes across the Essex coast. We're also under the path of Aircraft from London's City Airport as well as light aircraft from the nearby Stapleford Abbotts airfield. Wildlife is also on the interest as we get quite a variety of birds in our garden. In our previous abode, in 2020 we would get regular visits of Sparrow Hawks with two photographed in the garden on kills. I've installed a bird feeder on the tree in the middle of our lawn which attracts a whole host of birds both large and small from blue tits to rooks and parakeets as well as lesser spotted woodpeckers. We also get common woodpeckers quite often as well as a whole range of smaller birds. As for squirrels, they can't get to the nuts. There's also loads of foxes with visits almost every hour throught the day.
My greatest involvement todate was being a part owner of former London Routemaster RML2323 CUV323C when this first entered preservation having finished its working life in London on the 73 route. I was fortunate to be able to drive this to various events during my association with this vehicle.
I'm also a very keen Arsenal supporter and have been for over 50 years now since the age of 8.
