Hi! I'm Em. I have been sewing since childhood when my mom taught me on her old Kenmore sewing machine. I dabbled a bit and made mostly curtains or a few throw pillows when I needed them in my home. I hemmed pants. I reattached buttons. That sort of thing.

Then my first daughter was born and I started sewing more. I wanted to make her cute little pants and dresses. (which I did, a little bit) But my sewing really took off when I discovered babywearing and learned how to make a mei tai. I've since made close to 50 mei tais for myself, and friends and friends of friends. And that daughter who inspired my sewing? She was 4 in June and has been joined by a younger sister, now 2. We're expecting baby #3 at the end of March.

Somewhere along the line of perusing sewing blogs, I started to notice the online quilting community and I thought I'd like to try quilting as well. I still consider myself a "baby quilter" but I sure am trying.

Sewing is my therapy, my "me" time, the thing I look forward to by myself after my girls are tucked in bed for the evening (or at least for the first few hours before someone wakes up and starts crying).

I tend toward brighter, bolder colors; large, retro florals; nature inspired prints. The more organic designs call to me more than hard lines and geometrics, though some of those mixed in to a design can create a lovely balance of pattern. I love purple, especially purple with something else (blue, green, yellow, gray are all great). But my fabric stash is dominated by blues and greens so I definitely gravitate toward those colors as well.

I love dark chocolate, red wine, bold coffee, and black tea. I like to run, but can't seem to find as much time to do it as I would like. I enjoy walking barefoot in the grass. Autumn is my favorite season. I have a Masters degree in Botany but I have killed more house plants than I care to mention. My career field is Environmental Education but I am currently entrenched in my interim career of "raising responsible citizens". My children daily teach me more than I could ever hope to teach them. But I do hope to teach them to be kind, empathetic, optimistic, open-minded humans.
