Throughout most of 2010, his book, 25 Lessons I’ve Learned about photography Life! has been the #1 Best Selling Photo Essay and Artist & Photography Biography on Amazon.com. Paul Giguere, guru for the popular podcast thoughts on photography, considers 25 Lessons one of the "classic" essays on photography.
Most recently, Lorenzo edited and published a new edition of Jacob Riis's How The Other Half Lives, which is widely considered one of the most important works in American history and is a staple in college courses about photojournalism, social reform and literature.

My Take on 25 Lessons I've Learned about (Photography) Life
This book did an amazing job at taking the photography experiences of one man and translating these experiences and making the tangible for photographers and non-photographers alike. I loved the 25 lessons that the author presents and how practical they were. The author did a great job at incorporating down-to-earth examples of real people and real situations which make the book a fun and engaging read that will draw you in from the beginning (at least it did for me). Outside of this, the book shares some very valuable things with people who are looking for the self-help advice that this book provides. Not being a person that seems to need this, never-the-less it is important that this book has pearls of wisdom for all who read this book!

Then, one day in the Spring of 2005, he found himself staying at The Little Church in midtown Manhattan in the wake of a marital separation. Living in virtual isolation for three months, he had a rare chance to re-examine his life.

25! A Celebration: October 25, 2008, New York City:
On October 20, the Lucie Awards (the Oscars of Photogrpahy) will be held at the Lincoln Center in Manhattan. And from October 23 to October 25, PDN PhotoPlus will host its 25th Expo and Conference in New York City, with over 27,000 photography enthusiasts and professionals attending from all over the world.
In sum, there will be a lot avid photogs and emissaries from the field of photography who will be in New York City for this important week.
On the evening of Saturday, October 25, the last day of the expo, we plan to take advantage of this important confluence of people with a celebration called 25!

I have been selected by HP (Hewlett-Packard) to be the emerging artist to launch a national advertising campaign on February 1.
The initiative will include a special dedicated website that will co-exist alongside existing advertising for HP’s What Do You Have To Say? campaign, which features the likes of Gwen Stefani and the inventor of the snowboard, Jake Burton. Due to "production delays" in the UK, my publisher, Cyan Books, recently informed me that publication of 25 Lessons: The Art of Living will now be postponed for a couple of months, and will not come out in October as originally planned. I apologize to all those who have consistently given me support in this endeavor and hope to update you with an actual book launch (and party!) date as soon as possible.

Some time ago I was asked by the Executive Director of www.raintiger.com/artstudio/, Steve A. Williams, to take over the Expressions section in the Art Studio. I am elated to announce that my first contribution to this regular column was posted this month and that I am looking forward to contributing to this great artist’s site on a regular basis. A Little History of How I Got Started
People inspire me! Life inspires me! NYC inspires me! The night and the streets and love and my family and friends all inspire me! And maybe most importantly, I inspire me, for I am an ardent believer in self-determination.
In March 2005 I began to take photos more seriously and now I have 12,000+ fotos on flickr. I won the Excellence in Urban Photography, have been cited by over 100 blogs and sites, 2,222 have been "favorited" (a sample of 50 of those alone have been viewed 14,853 and marked as favorites 882 times, as of October 3, 2005), I've written extensively on my experience (25 Lessons I've Learned, More Lessons, and Creativity) and those sites have been visited by more than 15,000 people over the last couple of months. Albeit I have no formal training, I shoot everyday and feel the years of being a creative writer have enabled me to be open to the entire sensory experience requisite of being able to take great pictures.
Otherwise...in a glorious 37 or 38 years (i forget) of living I have pitched to and fro, undulated slow, tossed and turned restlessly, tirelessly and blissfully, and made utterly sane and madly vane love with life. this is what i love about the digital photography revolution - that we all now are able to capture those exquisite moments and curves and shadows and lines and illusions that make life so incredibly amazing.
Currently, I live in NYC. I have two boys, Enzo (10) and Nicky (7) whom i love and cherish, and who graciously tolerate my incessant documentation of their ever-evolving childhood.
In the Spring of 2005 I completed a project in which dozens of fellow photographers from all over the world helped me cull through the collection of 11,000 photos I have taken since March of this year to determine what are my “100 Best.” Ultimately, we decided on five different books. Take a look:

Up to that point there is nothing but mechanicalness, but as soon as sensitive energy enters, the possibility of separating from our own automatism begins. Pain and pleasure come from sensitivity. Without this sensitivity a photographer will not be able to recognise let alone to photograph the instance that he wish to capature, the moments in time that is capable to give the desired impact. I'm glad to say that this so called SENSITIVITY is clearly apparent in Lorenzo's works and it has been a pleasing experience just to describe it in this modest testimonial from me. Thank you.

When I first saw Lorenzo’s on Flickr I was immediately struck with his New York City street photographs, I had never seen any other photographer who was able to capture the essence of NYC street life in such a unique and distinctive style. At that time, I had several questions about his work which he gratefully answered along with an invitation to meet with him in New York. Unfortunately this never came to fruition and I have always regretted not taking the opportunity to meet with him in person, perhaps to learn a little of his camera magic. However in many of my conversations on great photographers, I frequently mention Lorenzo’s work and prided myself for my early stage recognition of his talent. Lorenzo has been able to capture moments in time which allow the viewer to study relationships which can not be observed in the real-time dynamics of life. Even more intriguing are Lorenzo’s sequential photographs, each one remarkable in itself, but viewed together are nothing less that a visual urban poem. It has been my pleasure to watch Lorenzo’s rapid growth as a leading photographer of our time.

Sus fotografías llegan a todo el mundo, independientemente de la edad, religión, nacionalidad o estatus social. Lorenzo adora Nueva York y eso se nota. Retrata como nadie su ciudad, sus gentes, sus colores, sus sentimientos y, en general, su atmósfera. En realidad, todo se resume en la esencia; como fotógrafo, no reproduce simplemente lo que tiene delante, sino que es capaz de capturar su esencia, su espíritu. Y eso, que él consigue en cada foto de manera natural, es algo realmente muy difícil de alcanzar. Lorenzo ha sido una fuente de inspiración continua desde que lo encontré en flickr y espero que lo siga siendo durante mucho tiempo. A través de sus fotos, aprendí a mirar la realidad que tenia delante de una forma diferente...y siempre le estaré agradecida por ello. For Lorenzo there is meaning and the revelation of myth in the smallest vignette. Each image or series of images are a revelatory story. But more than that, Lorenzo wants to give…give from the life he reveals from the center of his passion, the fruit of his effort, the broadness of his vision. His intent, as with all real artists, is to share the life that it is his pleasure to experience - for truly, the creation of art is a rare pleasure as is this lovely book of life lessons for the artist or for any wanderer on this planet to enjoy.

Let's cut to the chase: Lorenzo is a master. His body of work is some of the very best on Flickr and may very well be some of the best being done in the medium today. His street/city work follows in the tradition of Paul Strand, Cartier-Bresson, Garry Winogrand and Larry Friedlander. But he doesn't simply imitate nor work within previously defined boundaries. Lorenzo's "street" approach goes beyond studied and safe, offering new vision, compelling the viewer to see what they have seen before differently... freshly. Lorenzo's work is not limited to a single genre. He transcends categorization. Take two of his recent images, for example: "Risk" and "Looking at the GW." Very different subjects-- one almost claustraphobic, the other limitless... one gritty and gray, the other rich in color and tone... one a social commentary, the other pure poetry. Great, great stuff. Inspired and inspiring. ... and educational: Lorenzo's "25 Lessons" should be a must for anyone who raises a camera to their eye. They are well thought out, deceptively simple--easy to grasp--and applicable to all phases of the photographic art, as seminal a piece of writing on the how of photography as Ansel's dissertation on the zone system. And make no mistake, they are not a basic primer for beginners. I found them to be reenergizing, perceptive and extremely useful. No one can create images as Lorenzo has without integrating the tenets of discerning vision and the richness of details of life without having an extraordinary level of passion. It is clear Lorenzo is passionate-- about his work... and about life. I have been touched by his story, his writings and by his work. I can't imagine anyone not being so.
