About the Long Island Explorium

Founded in 2004, the Long Island Explorium is a nonprofit, state-chartered STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) learning hub based in Port Jefferson. Recognized as Long Island’s family maker-space, we offer hands-on exhibits, workshops for students and families, and professional development for P-12 teachers.

Through inquiry-based experiences that emphasize “play to learn” and “fail forward,” we aim to spark inventive thinking, build confidence, and foster collaboration.

About Maker Faire Long Island

Presented by the Long Island Explorium, Maker Faire Long Island is the region’s marquee maker-event—part science fair, part innovation expo, part interactive art show. With a diverse lineup of makers, live demonstrations, hands-on workshops, and engaging performances, it brings together curious minds of all ages for a day of inspiration, discovery, and fun.

In September 2025’s 8th annual edition, held at Stony Brook University, we hosted over 100 makers and welcomed thousands of attendees. (Include updated attendance numbers as available.)
