My pictures are essentially a photo diary. Nothing much grander than that, just what catches my eye during what I am doing or things I want to have a record of, or show off or complain about!. I do try to take/post the best pictures I can and they are sometimes pleasing to my eye and sometimes not quite so much.
Keen for Flickr to be a gentle, friendly, enjoyable and supportive place and I want/hope to do my little bit in this.
Photography: I am learning and improving, ....I think ......maybe.
I love taking pictures into the light - I hope to always love this! #intothelight
I live right beside the Annacloy River (River Quoile) I fish it in summer and walk the river all the year round- sometimes with camera in hand. The majority of the pictures on my photostream are taken close to my house.
I love live music and, for me, getting to bring a camera into the gig will always feel a privilege. If I cant get a camera in I will usually do as best I can with my phone camera.
As of December 2021, I have transitioned most of my photos from "all rights reserved" to creative commons licenses that require attribution. I enjoy seeing stuff getting used. If you use any of my cc images, please attribute as something like: " Image by Conall www.flickr.com/people/conall "
Also I am keen to hear when images are used. You don’t *have* to tell me but I really like it if you do! it is easy to contact me here either on the comment boxes under the photo or via flickrmail. or if you dont have a Flickr account and dont want to register then you can get me at twitter @ConallMcCaughey (i dont do Flickr anymore but I keep the account for private messages and I will see any contact/messsage there)
I generally post pictures that I have taken in the previous week or two as i like to keep the pictures "in season" (as indicated in my opening line I consider my Flickr site to be a sort of photo diary).
I am administrator for the group "Bees and Beekeeping (honeybees only)" www.flickr.com/groups/beekeeping/
My nerdiest project is my spreadsheet of honey bees pictured on named flowers. docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-_uJANb_oKgIZLEvm0mFjYq3W... please do have a peak if you have time.
I try to keep my contacts to a manageable number and so I do cull the list from time to time and I don't necessarily reciprocate "follows" straight away. Generally if there is ongoing good interaction happening I will follow someone.
I dont do any 'post one comment x' type groups. I used to get sucked into this but found they were making Flickr less fun for me so now I avoid them and, i have to say, this has seemed to work!
In recent years I have tended to include a You-tube music video link with some of the pictures that I post. My Flickr stream is now like a giant jukebox of stuff that i like and I am glad I have done this as it is enjoyable for me to look back at old pictures and see the music that I linked to at the time. ....So ignore the music links unless something catches your eye.
I am also keen on Spanish language and culture and am keen to make contacts that are Spanish speaking.
Intento aprender español en clases de noche. Es bastante difícil para mí! Entonces me gustaría tener contactos que hablan español. Quiero una opurtunidad para practicar escribir en español. Flickr es divertido! Espero aprender español en Flickr puede ser divertido también.
Cameras: I have used a Nikon D3100 for many years (mainly with Nikon AF-S NIKKOR f/1.8G Lens 50mm prime lens but also the 18-55mm kit lens and occasionally the Tamron AF 70-300mm F/4-5.6). I make extensive use of the clip-on Raynox DCR-250 macro converter. I am a big fan of this device - it is a cheap and very effective way of making decent macros from existing equipment without spending megabucks on a good macro lens.
In 2020 I bought a Nikon D750. I use this with a 60mm prime lens (AF-S Micro NIKKOR 60mm f/2.8G ED) often using the Raynox DCR-250 in conjunction with this and I also often use the general purpose lens that came with this camera (Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 24-120 f/4G ED VR) My Raynox doesnt fit on this lens!
Despite now having the D750, I do find myself reaching still for the D3100 when I want to take the camera for a walk. It is light and easy to carry and I dont get so precious about getting it wet or dirty. My walks tend often to be in the mud and the rain.
In 2022 I bought an Olympus TG-6 with an Olympus LG-1 Macro Ring Light as it is light and allows me to use flash for beekeeping macros. I have been using this to illustrate honey bee queen rearing activities. It is also a great camera for just having handy in a coat pocket and I am getting better at keeping it in a pocket. But I'm not so good at managing to be wearing the right coat when I need it.
If you have read right to the end of this then I wish to express apologies for my wordiness and appreciation of your perseverance.
