Eastern Red-tailed hawk--Buteo jamaicensis borealis

Looking at the right wing you can see the inside primary feather (P1--Primary # 1) just starting to grow in. P2-P5 are fully grown in. P6 looks about half way in and P7-P10 all look like juvenile primary feathers, but should molt out over the next 4-6 weeks to be replaced with adult feathers. All the secondaries are juvenile feathers except for S4 which is a fully grown in adult feather. The tail is still in juvenile feathers except for the center two which are adult feathers. Over the next few weeks those juvenile feathers will molt out and be replaced by the reddish tail feathers of an adult bird. Most of the body feathers are replaced with adult feathers by this point. They start molting those in during early spring.
