Turtle tick

Ixodidae | Jama-Coaque Reserve, Manabí, Ecuador

 

I found four on a Brown wood turtle (Rhinoclemmys annulata). Later, on another individual, I found four more! These ticks burrowed partway between the scutes, with only their abdomens showing.
