Central Park Dreamer

Walking in Central Park, I was mesmerized by this gentleman's face. My fingers ITCHED to take a photo. I wanted mostly to capture the blue translucence of his eyelids and his nautical hat. He had a companion with him, a kind man who was totally amenable to me taking some photos. I gave him my e-mail address, and he e-mailed before we even left New York! Here is his e-mail:

We met today in the park. You took a picture of my good friend, Jan Mitchell. I didn't ask you if you were a native New Yorker. Jan Mitchell owned one of the most popular restaurants in Manhattan. It was on 14th Street and was called, Luchow's. I cannot tell you how many people have stopped us to tell us they miss his restaurant. He also is a trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He even has his collection of Pre Columbian gold there. It's called the Jan Mitchell Treasury. Thanks for being so kind. He does have a great face, doesn't he? It was nice meeting you. Rocco

Thank you, Roco! Mr. Mitchell is certainly a lucky man for your friendship and I am a lucky woman having met you!

To my dismay, I didn't capture Mr. M. exactly the way I wanted. But, he's here!

Mr. Mitchell is #10 in my Hundred Strangers Project. Find out more about the project and see pictures taken by other photographers at www.100strangers.com/
