Mr. Vanescu
He was standing in the midst
of a crowd of pedestrians in motion
on Arizona Avenue Third in Santa Monica.
There was much motion all
around him but he was standing still.
He is very short -dwarf-like, in fact.
I noticed him immediately and
requested a photograph. He just looked at me
quizzically. I pointed to the camera and
mimed taking his photograph. He didn't say
yes or no, and I took two,
of which this is one. I SO wanted to take
his photo - as i did a couple of other
folks in Santa Monica who
said no. But he didn't say no
and I am so glad
as that moment, that
quick instant, of recognition,
now is a something,
a photo i keep.
isn't photography a miracle?
