Soldier in San Francisco, Thanksgiving 2010
He was in the San Francisco
airport on the day after
Thanksgiving, 2010 - on his way
back to Iraq for his third tour. Asked
about it, he said, "It's boring now,
which is good," and explained
that there were still bombs in
the dirt that could kill them, but that
the danger level was mostly
much lower than ever, and this
time he volunteered to return
"to be with my buddies." Asked
for his photo, he stared straight
and stoically; I took two photos,
and both were almost
identical.
I personally feel sending any
of our brave young men and
women overseas to fight
in Iraq or elsewhere is insane -
I hold onto a vision of a world
beyond war - and pray America
never again invades any
country.
But I have no animosity towards
the brave soldiers like this
man in his combat boots and
uniform in the airport.
