La Chouette de l’Oural est un rêve pour tous les amoureux de la nature, des animaux et des oiseaux. On la voit en photo, dans les reportages, dans les livres; on l’espère au détour d’un arbre, on en parle le soir autour d’un verre et on caresse le secret espoir de la voir…. un jour.
Daniel Green (Birdsafari of Sweden), un des meilleurs guides que j’ai eu l’occasion de rencontrer dans mes voyages ornithologiques sait qu’il est difficile de voir ce rapace. Nous sommes début mai, la période de reproduction a commencé, il va nous emmener au nord du Vastmanland pour une incroyable journée !
Nous allons rencontrer l’homme de la Chouette de l’Oural en Suède : Kelle-Ake Källebrink (ainsi que son frère Kalle) pose des nichoirs et bague des Chouettes de l’Oural depuis 30 ans ! La déforestation réduit l’aire de répartition de nombreux rapaces. La Chouette de l’Oural ayant besoin d’arbres morts pour fabriquer son nid, ne trouve plus la maison de ses rêves ! Kelle a donc décidé de poser chaque année une cinquantaine de nichoirs pour aider notre Chouette et quand la magie opère, l’homme et l’oiseau cohabitent pacifiquement jusqu’au moment où les petits prendront leur envol !
La Chouette de l’Oural présentée en photo couve 2 oeufs, seule la femelle couve, le mâle nous surveille caché à proximité, nous croisons tous les doigts pour la réussite de cette couvée !

We are going to see the man of the Ural Owl in Sweden : Kelle-Ake Källebrink (and his brother Kalle) put nesting boxes and rings Ural Owls for 30 years ! The deforestation is reducing the distribution area for many raptors. The Ural Owl needs the dead trunks to build her nest, and she doesn’t find her « home sweet home » ! So Kalle decided to put, every year, about 50 nest boxes to help our Owl and when magic is working, man and bird live together pacifically until the time where the cubs will take their flight !
The Ural Owl in these photos is hatching two eggs, only the female takes care of the eggs, the male hides around , we all cross our fingers for a complete success of this brood !
