Hyperolius swynnertoni broadleyi

Plenty of rain during our trip to the Nyanga area. Not always ideal for botanical fieldwork but it did bring out the frogs, especially these Swynnerton's Reed Frogs. They appeared to be on every other plant we saw. Although recently separated taxonomically from the Painted Reed Frog (H. marmoratus), there still is a lot of variety in colour although the general pattern appears to be fairly similar. It is said that this particular race may still turn out to be a separate species, which would than become H. broadleyi after the man who is probably one of the greatest and most influential herpetologists Southern Africa has ever known.
