God's Thumb... and his swimming pool
My second trip to God's Thumb. The first time was a couple years ago and we took the shorter, lower route. This time around we went up, through The Knoll and down to the Thumb from above. The upper approach gave one quite a nice view and despite the extremely persistent biting little bugs, I stopped long enough to expose a frame of JCH Streetpan through an R72 filter in the pinhole. I only wish we had chose the upper path for our return trip as the lower route we took, in order to complete the loop, was a muddy mess. It has been a long time since I have been on a trail that rivaled the mud levels of that trek. One group passed us going barefoot and I admit it was a tempting idea as boots weren't doing much good. But it was all worth it for the time spent above the Thumb.
