Bay Bridge, Pentax 6x7
Following in Aaron's footsteps in creating a whole new lexicon for photography, I am introducing a new term: camslam
camslam: [kam-slam]
- Verb
1. The act of photographing the same location with similar compositions using three or more cameras.
-Noun, plural camslams [kam-slams]
1. A gathering of photographers at one location where the number of cameras changing hands and used is at least three times the number of photographers present.
This is the first image of four, all pretty much the same composition but photographed with different cameras and/or different films. Contrasted with the previous image, this gives a good comparison for the difference in emphasis that color vs. black and white can make. And no, I do not think one version is better than the other, they are just different. :-)
In terms of the Pentax 6x7, it's qualities are thus:
1) Large negative (6x7 centimeters), so lots of information and sharpness. In digital terms this camera produces 70+ megapixel images.
2) The larger negative translates not just to greater detail but also great tonality in both color and black and white.
3) The glass is very well made, little to no problems with flare and produces very clean looking images.
4) Rectangular aspect ratio, kind of a squat rectangle at that. A shape I have an easy time creating balanced images with.
