The Crimson Arch
Heres another stitched pano from last Fridays epic Aurora display , taken at Lake Ellesmere, Canterbury NZ.
I continue to be impressed with the canon 5D mk4 for this kind of shot, together with the 35mmL mk2 it makes an impressively powerful combination for astro-photography. One of the changes I've noticed is the sheer size of my images compared to shooting with the 6d. Its only an extra 10 mega pixels , or 33% but this adds up fast and the increased quality of the sensor shows. Less noise and better dynamic range etc.
This image is made from 24 individual frames shot landscape mode, 4 rows of 6 images, the resulting file is 6.5Gb and measures 26000x12500 pixels and would make a decent 2 meter print even taken at ISO 6400, f2.2 and 8 seconds exposure. I used my iPano robotic head to shoot this on a Sirui tripod and head (K30x on w2204).
