Peacock (Pavo cristatus)

The Indian Peacock is the most majestic and decorated bird, and was spread all over the world as a pet in the courts and halls of maharajahs, sultans, emperors and kings. The male has a bright blue body and a long tail, inlaid with greenish "eyes". The male unfurls his tail wide in courtship displays, to impress the female (called Peahen). Despite the long heavy tail the peacock is capable of flight (but only to short distances or low altitude).

 

I wanted to photograph a peacock in full courtship display for a long time. I tried to find peacocks in zoos, petting zooes, farms, zoological gardens and kibbutz'es. But they all kept their tail closed. It took me several long years until I found a peacock unfurling his tail. This photo was taken in a very difficult lighting conditions, but fortunately I had my new Nikon D7100 DSLR camera and my old steady hands, and this is the result. I hope you like it.

 

הטווס המצוי הוא העוף ההדור והמלכותי ביותר, והופץ בכל העולם כחיית מחמד בהיכליהם וחצרותיהם של מהרג'ות, סולטנים, קיסרים ומלכים. גוף הזכר כחול בוהק וזנבו הארוך ירוק ובו משובצות עשרות "עיניים" ירוקות. הזכר פורש את זנבו בתצוגת חיזור כדי להרשים את הנקבה. למרות הזנב הכבד, הטווס מסוגל לעוף (אך רק למרחקים קצרים וגבהים נמוכים). י

 

רציתי לצלם טווס עם זנב פרוש הרבה מאוד זמן. ניסיתי למצוא טווסים בגני חיות, פינות חי, חוות, גנים זואולוגיים וקיבוצים, אך כולם שמרו על זנבם סגור. תמונה זו צולמה בתנאי תאורה קשים, אך למזלי הייתי מצויד במצלמת הניקון די-7100 החדשה שלי והידיים היציבות הישנות שלי, וזוהי התוצאה. אני מקווה שאתם אוהבים אותה. י
