Dreaded aluminum oxide created an obstacle to removing or adjusting the stem. The great Brandt (sheldonbrown.com/brandt/stuck-stem.html) suggests removal by drilling, but I opted for Randy's advice (www.mytenspeeds.com/My_TenSpeeds_1/Site%20Contents/How_To...) involving my eponymous tool and surprisingly few temper tantrums.
