MANUFACTUUR 3.0

Andrea de Chicero - Superlocal

in C-mine designcentrum

How can products be made locally with the aid of digital technologies?

Modern technology could bring about a return to local production. SUPERLOCAL regards the city as a production site. In this project, Andrea de Chirico develops short production lines in a specific urban context. Making products locally reduces the need for transport and is thus less harmful to the environment. At the same time, it creates a new urban dynamic and generates employment. Resources, materials and labour all found within a short bike ride are connected in order to make everyday objects, such as a hair dryer. The objects can be produced locally and are released in an open production database.

In the context of MANUFACTUUR 3.0, Andrea de Chirico is developing a SUPERLOCAL edition in Genk. The project starts with a survey of the available raw materials and expertise, and proceeds to develop a prototype specifically for Genk, in Genk. The product will be produceable entirely locally.
