Dead on Time

Hey look its a photo of one of the new subway trains for the TTC! Actually I think they started being used more than a year ago but I've only been on them a handful of times. Chalk it up to bad luck I guess cause ever since I first got on one last Christmas break I wanted to get a photo of it but every time I'm on one even when it reaches the end of the line it gets stormed with people. And I wanted a shot of it when its empty so that was a little trickier. Nice to see the transit system getting real update because I believe that some of the old trains are as old as 30+ years, so something a little more modern and more importantly air conditioned is quite the welcomed update. Plus it looks so modern and clean now compared to the older models.

So yesterday my brother and I decided to go downtown for a little bit. We were heading out in the area to begin with because I was meeting up with someone to buy myself a new toy, a Minolta Hi-Matic 7sII. I'll talk more about that later when the inevitable gear shot of it is done but back to the story. After I picked that up we headed downtown to meet up with Tyler (check out his fancy Flickr here) and more importantly to see his new fancy toy, the Contax 645. So we just walked around for a bit and shoot some street while we were there. It was to dark to shoot his Contax 645 so Tyler ended up trying out his other new toy the Canon LTM 50mm F1.2 lens on my brother Leica M8. While I also used my brothers NEX-7, since it was also to dark for me to shoot film handheld at the moment. While my brother decided to mess around and shoot some photos with his Canon 5D MKII and his Canon 200mm F1.8 (ridiculous I know).

So after our short trip and little meet up we headed back on the subway and headed back home. Since my brother and I had to get off at Finch and it was late at night I figured no one would be there and I could finally get a nice empty shot of the train. But I was wrong, when we reached Finch there was still quite a number of people getting ready to hop on and the train wasn't even remotely empty. So I figured I'd press my luck and suggested we wait for the next train and hope its one of the new ones. And lord and behold it was, with the train we just got off still at the station and people hoping on the that one the new train was empty for a short amount of time. So I hopped in along side the custodians and quickly took this shot. I wanted to move further back but there was a custodian right behind me either way its a nice perspective. Though I learned one terrible fact after I got home and looked at this photo on my computer. Right behind the custodian is a person who just walked right in this train! You can't really see her unless you look at this photo at large 2048px but she's there and is way to annoying for me to bother trying to clone her out. Either way I still like this shot and I finally caught one of these trains on a slow night (kinda).

The title "Dead on Time" is also the title of a song by Queen.
