Veteran's Alley #4 - Nov 2015
As a street photographer, sometimes you see things that you weren't expecting ... in this case, it was a one-block stretch of Leavenworth Street, between Geary and O'Farrell, in the Tenderloin district of downtown San Francisco.
It's known colloquially as "Veteran's Alley," and I had no idea what its purpose was, or how it came to be. But the murals on the wall speak for themselves, and I couldn't help photographing them ...
Alas, even though I've worked in the computer field for over 50 years, I'm from a generation that does not have Google hard-wired into its cerebral cortex ... so it usually takes me a few minutes to react to a mystery like this one by shouting, "Google it!"
Google told me that the murals were painted by a Gulf War veteran named Amos Gregory. You should read about it -- and if you're ever in San Francisco, you should come to this neighborhood to see what it's all about. Here is the URL:

In early November 2015, I flew from New York to San Francisco to take a weekend street-photography workshop under the tutelage of Eric Kim. As you might expect, I took gazillions of photos; but not all of them were specifically associated with the workshop itself. On the way out to San Francisco, I took a bunch of pictures with my iPhone; and during the weekend, I took a number of photos that had little or nothing to do with street-photography per se.
I’ll upload the photos in dribs and drabs during the next several days, and let you decide which ones are sufficiently interesting to warrant a second look…
