Kisoro is the last town in Uganda before the Rwandan border. Home to refugees from the 1994 Rwandan genocide that massacred 1 million people, as well as the Congo War that started in 1998 and officially ended in 2003 claiming 3,5 million lives.
The sight of a lone child in a field of portaloos is the stark reminder of the countless orphans created by these conflicts. And still... they waive at you as you pass.
