Beckov Castle
This is what I came to the village of Beckov to see. Mind you, this is probably all that anyone comes to Beckov to see. Dominating the surrounding landscape, the castle ruin of Beckov, was once an important link in a chain of defensive fortresses up and down Slovakia’s Váh river valley, later becoming an aristocratic residence. A fire burned it down in 1729 and with no restoration efforts, this remains all that’s left of it. Being a Monday evening, the castle was closed so I was free to roam the hills surrounding the castle without another human in sight, not even at the height of the summer holidays. Taken on 4 August 2014.
