Suicidal Snake

This Southern Ringneck snake has a death-wish. Two days in a row now, I walked onto the back porch just in time to rescue it from cats- indoor cats who never go any further outside than the screened enclosure. Why does this snake want to feed itself to my cats? I don't know why, but if it tries it again, I may just let the cats have their fun.

 

Also- I may be reading the situation wrong. I might just have a snake infestation, and this is not the same snake I rescued yesterday.
