Old Japanese restaurant by the Ueno Park

Inshoutei (韻松亭) restaurant near Ueno Toushouguu is a rare traditional architecture surviving on a commercial basis in the downtown Tokyo.

The cheapest lunch set menu is for 1660 yen (USD 11) , and the full course dinner is for 7,150 yen (USD 48). 10% tax is probably not included.

The Ueno Park used to be the compound of the Kan'ei-ji (寛永寺) temple. It became the battle ground in 1868 between the army of the Meiji government and Tokugawa loyalists although Tokugawa Shogun had already agreed to transfer the power to the Meiji government by that time. Most of the important temple architectures were burned down during the battle.

Defeated Tokugawa loyalists fled north to Hakodate in Hokkaidou where they surrendered.

The temple still exists but most of its compound was confiscated by the Meiji government and converted to the Ueno Park.
