On Saturday May 8, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety opened its doors to the public during their annual open house. During the event, more than 250 community members toured the facilities, displays, and got an up-close look at all the department has to offer. Some of the displays included equipment from the Crime Scene Investigation Unit (CSI), the SWAT Team, the Bicycle Enforcement Team, fire apparatus and the Recruiting Unit. There were also live demonstrations by the Canine Unit and the "Jaws of Life" was put to use during an auto-extrication demonstration by Fire Station 2 personnel. Other displays included the Red Cross, SNAP, SARES ham radio operators, and an AMR ambulance with paramedics. The event was coordinated by the members of the Crime Prevention Unit and the Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS).
