Atop Stoney Man Mountain
Second stop on my weekend trek through Shenandoah NP - The Summit of Stoney Man Mountain (just over 4000 feet). The town off to the right is Luray VA and the lights in the center, just off to the left is Skyland Resort. It was so quiet you can hear folks talking in Skyland. Oh and the guy to the right was crazy enough to go out on the rocks in the dark to get his shot. Lastly you can see the Big Dipper in the upper right corner.
This pano was taken about midnight.
Next stop - Big Meadows for astrophotography.
Processing Note: This photo took some work to capture and process. I took multiple exposures of the same frames because of the luminance of the moon. In PS I had to blend the multiple exposures, blend the results of those exposures, merge them, apply transformations, and then apply luminance masking on multiple copies of the layers, play with the colors to recreate the chroma, and apply selective sharpening to bring out the features in the landscape. I had to apply selective noise reduction as well. Whew!
