冰豆浆 (Cold Soybean Milk)

Late lunch @ '来来永和豆漿', a chain of restaurants specialising in soybean milk.

 

Soybean Milk is very common throughout China (as well as in Taiwan and in Southeast Asia). It is very nutritional as well as refreshing. The taste tends to run from thick to thin, savoury (or unsweetened) in the north to sweet in the south.

 

Westerners tend to find the beany taste of soybean milk a turn off and try all means to rid the beverage off this note but in Asia, this beany taste is actually prized. It's tantamount to asking someone to rid the red wine notes off of red wines or having a can of 0% ethanol content beer. It still looks the same but everyone knows it's crap.
