醋烹虾段 (Tangy & Sweet Fried Prawns)

Dinner in one of the local eateries along Furong Street (and side alleys) [芙蓉街], a street in Jinan, famed for street food (小吃街).

 

The folks in Shandong has a thing for the "Tangy & Sweet" combo, which is delivered with the usage of vinegar and sugar. Here, prawns are fried to a crisp and then thrown back into the wok with the tangy gravy burbling away - the entire content given a quick stir-fry and the prawns served with fried prawn crackers.

 

The tanginess of the dish made it very moreish and it was quite tongue-smacking irresistible although this being a local eatery and Jinan, being an inland provincial capital, the prawns were not that out-of-the-ocean fresh.
