甜烧白 (Sichuan Style Sweet Glutinous Rice)

Dinner @ '成都印象' in Chengdu.

 

I must confess - the idea of steaming pork with glutinous rice and then serving it with sugar glaze sounded really bizarre!

 

In Sichuan, steamed glutinous rice is presented in 2 forms - savoury and sweet. This is the sweet kind.

 

Bizarre idea aside, the dish actually tasted quite good. If no one mentions it, I did not even realise that there is a slab of pork in the dish...it having steamed to the point of disintegration.
