Boysenberries {Rubus ursinus × idaeus}
An old photo that I managed to find.
All through my growing up years, "Boysenberry" is always an intriguing flavour, usually offered in ice creams in Singapore that I never has a chance to see or taste the fruit.....and it remains an elusively and enigmatic exotic fruit.
I finally found them in Melbourne during the summer months when berries are in abundance.
From Wikipedia, a Boysenberry (博伊森莓) was defined as a cross between a European Raspberry (Rubus idaeus), a Common Blackberry (Rubus fruticosus), and a Loganberry (Rubus × loganobaccus).
Having tasted them, they reminded me of raspberries, except, they are a tad more more acidic/sourish, more fruity-green and has a slight grape-like sweetness to them.
Boysenberry is mysterious enigma no more.
