Loquats (枇杷) [Eriobotrya japonica]
This is a fruit I like. Not found in the tropics, it is well known as a traditional Chinese medicine for coughs and for soothing of irritated throats.
When fully ripened, the fruit turned golden orange and the thin paper-like skin can be peeled off to reveal the sweet succulent flesh within. Can be very mildly astrigent at times, the taste is a mixture of peaches, chikus (sapodillas) and apricots by my own imagination.
I realised later on that the fruit is not indigenous to Yunnan but is likely to be from central China.
