Spirulina Dumplings (螺旋藻粑粑)

Another common street food in the old city of Lijiang: Spirulina Dumplings.

The skin of these dumplings are made from glutinous rice flour and the filling is made from mung bean paste. The dumplings are generally steamed.

A variety of colours denote different types of flavoured fillings. The white ones are flavoured with yak's milk. The purple ones with purple sweet potatoes while the green ones with spirulina.

They are cheap: 3 for 10 RMB.

Unfortunately, both my mate and myself were not smittened with the taste. While they were great for photography, the thick and chewy skin were very starchy and we do not think it was that remarkable nor amazing. In the end, we took a couple of bites and threw our individual piece plus the extra one into the bin.
