Lijiang Yak Milk Yoghurt (丽江牦牛酸牛奶)

Brekkie on Christmas Day in one of the many eateries littered within the Old City of Lijiang. I believe the shop is called "88号小吃店".

This is the other brand of Yoghurt that dominated the shops in Lijiang. Both claimed to be made from Yak's milk. My mate and myself ordered a bottle and shared it. We were just curious to determine if there were any taste differences - none really, for the curious to know. We shared a bottle, simply because we were not keen to lace ourselves with Aspartame so early in the morning.

Both brands contained the artificial sweetener Aspartame (阿斯巴甜), which is so prevalent in China. (In general, not just Aspartame, but also Acesulfame K (安赛蜜), Sucralose (三氯蔗糖) and Sodium Cyclamate (甜蜜素). I have been advising colleagues not to feed food items containing these stuff to their kids)

I really questioned the need to add such rubbish into otherwise, healthy good stuff.

I once bought a bottle of beverage in New York without reading the labels. Took a mouthfull and literally spat it out onto the streets. I checked the label and was astounded to find the beverage ladened with 3 of the sweeteners listed above, along with Stevia. Not a gram of real sugar was added. I threw the entire bottle (which cost me US$3.50) into the rubbish bin where it belongs. I ended up buying a bottle of low sugar (and I really meant low sugar) tea beverage from an Asian grocery shop.
