This shop is one of the real McCoy of the 'Qinhuai 8 Specialties' (秦淮八绝) - 莲湖糕团店.
The long queues are a dead giveaway.
You can grab various types of sweet things here - cakes and pastries done in the most traditional style, from recipes created hundred of years ago. One can also grab sweet dessert soups like sweetened red bean soups with glutinous rice balls.
Unfortunately, maybe the cakes are too exquisite for my mundane palette. The sweet cakes are extremely heavy and starchy - plenty of bites and they fill you up quickly as they are based on glutinous rice. I find them just too starchy for my liking.
