Pan-fried Savoury Rice Cakes (河粉煎)

Snacking @ Shilin Night Market (士林夜市).

From the stall in front of '阳明戏院', this is a most interesting find from the market. It is basically moulded rice flour cake with a minced pork-mushroom filling. Probably pre-steamed and then pan-fried to get the golden-brown crust.

Served with a sweet-salty gravy and chilli sauce.

It's a tad starchy but not offensive. I like the crunchiness of the brownish crust. The gooey savoury filling made up for the rest - warm, flavourful and rewarding. It was like eating braised pork rice, presented in a novel way.
