Pink Guava (紅心芭樂) {Psidium guajava}
Guava (regular white flesh and the more striking pink flesh) is a very popular fruit in Taiwan. Affectionally called "Ba Lak"(芭樂), the more accurate Chinese name is actually '番石榴'. The pink flesh variety is sweeter, more supple and more flavourful (with a slightly richer dose of sulphur compounds), not to mention, a wonderful candidate for photographs.
It is very common to consume guavas with a sprinkling of sour plum powders.
The striking colour also resulted in the cliche presentation of a pinkish-red 'heart' for sale in many fruit shops and stalls.
