Cold Eel Noodles (爆鳝冷面)

Lunch @ '王家沙' in Shanghai.

It's Autumn now but Shanghai is still plenty summery. Cold noodles are still on the menu.

Wok Stir-fried eel slivers is actually popular in Shanghai, stir-fried with soysauce in general. It's salty and sweet and plenty oily as well.

Here, this 28RMB cold noodle dish was served slathered with toasted sesame sauce, with the stir-fried eel slivers served separately in a small plate so that one can add as much or as little as one desires.

The eel sliver did not taste fishy but it does not remind me of Japanese Unagi either. It has a slightly chewy bounciness to its texture as if one is eating fish skin.

Rather intriguing way of enjoying eel.
