Saucy Dry Beef Noodles (牛肉醬拌面)

Lunch @ '鬥牛士牛肉面' along busy touristy artery that is Nanjing Lu Walking Street.

I have walked past this place several times and I promised I will pay a visit one day. Well, today is that 'one day'.

 

Beef noodles is a big Taiwanese import and several chains and restaurants have popped up in Shanghai through the years to answer the burgeoning demand.

 

As summer is still running strong, the dry versions are still being featured on the menus and I opted for one.

 

The beef used in this chain is a lot animalic compared to other more famous and popular chains. You can literally smell and taste the cow through the tallowy character. I don't mind it too much but it can be offending to some folks.

 

For 18RMB, I didn't really get a lot of proteins - I did get strands of black wood fungus, pieces of bamboo shoots and some greens. The noodles were not too bad, firm and springy and absorbed the soysauce based gravy well.

 

I delivered my promise to myself.
