Ice Cream Soda Pop (彈珠氣水/弹珠气水)
Something old making a comeback in Taiwan - Soda Pop, marketed in the traditional way. This style of soda pop actually originated in Japan and came into Taiwan because of the Japanese colonial days.
The design is quite unique - a glass bead actually seals the opening. By pressing the glass bead down, the pressure is released (with probably soda exploding out as a real risk) and one can then taste the fizzy soda pop within, which is usually fantasy fruit flavoured or citrus flavoured.
In Suao, traditionally, the soda pop is made with the cold fizzy water of the cold springs found in this area. This negate the need for ice or cooling. However, the industry waned in the 50s with the rise of industrial refrigeration. It made came back in the 90s with the rise of retro and people yearning for memories of the past.
